Post-punk could be anything. Maybe it’s the futuristic energy of the word “post,” or the DIY attitude inherited from punk itself. When these two forces collided, the result was a musical melting pot, open and limitless. Still, there’s a certain tone that many post-punk artists seem to share — a touch of nonchalance, grooves that make your body move rather than jump or stare at your shoes, and a restless curiosity for new sounds, including electronic music.
WACK, in terms of form, leans closer to a rock band. Yet they move freely, crossing into full-blown acid house territory without hesitation. Back when post-punk was at its peak — in the late ’70s and early ’80s — acid house didn’t even exist yet. Still, it wasn’t unusual to hear post-punk records spinning in dance clubs. In that sense, post-punk and acid house always seemed destined to meet.
Just like how the members of WACK came together — skating, playing in bands, and hanging out in the same spaces — our sound flows naturally, unforced and alive.
